Value chain analysis of Fruits & Berries in South Serbia

Project Description

The assignment was performed in the period October 2011-January 2012 by The Center for the Development of Jablanica and Pcinja Districts and the sub-contractor Epicentar Interantional as both desk and field research.

The desk research covered the collection of all available quantitative and qualitative data of the verified sources of information such as: official statistics, prepared/published strategies and programs, laws and by-laws reflecting on the targeted VCs. The data coverage included both the national and local levels, related to the general agriculture development as well as specific sub-sectors development. The data collected covered information relevant for the assignment including production quantity, value, varieties, geographic locations, number of hectares planted, domestic export and import data for at least ten year period.

The field research provided  data that were not available through the desk research through interviews with the relevant stakeholders of specific value chains, including producers (households and companies), processing companies (small and medium enterprises), forest fruits collectors, the municipal administration in the five districts as well as representatives of the district extension service offices.
